Shineen Klein is the founder and owner of Modderfontein Montessori School and has been involved in the realm of Montessori teaching for over 25 years. She has previously owned three Montessori schools, been a school principal and was also an assessor at a Montessori Teachers Training school.
When she first laid eyes on the property where our school is today, she knew it would make a beautiful Montessori school. It became her dream to acquire the land and open up a Montessori school where the pinnacle in Montessori education could be offered. In January 2010, her dream became a reality. She took ownership of the property and began the journey towards converting it into the beautiful environment that first opened its doors to the public on 1 March 2010. A lot of hard work and support from her family went into making it possible and this was recognised when 17 children were welcomed through the doors of Modderfontein Montessori School on opening day.
Since then the school has grown in leaps and bounds.
Our Pre-school was the first area to open its doors to the public in March 2010. Our initial intake of 17 children has since grown to having over 200 children enrolled in our Montessori Pre-school, a testament to the dedication of each member of staff. Each of the beautiful classrooms is fully equipped with quality Montessori materials, and our directresses take pride in maintaining pristine prepared environments that are not only inviting, but also 100% suited to the children and their needs.
Children are introduced to the Montessori curriculum via basic Practical Life and Sensorial Montessori materials from the time they start in the toddler environment. Some of these materials overlap and extend in complexity when they enter the Pre-school or 3-6-year-old environments. In Pre-school, the children continue learning through the Practical Life and Sensorial areas, but are now also introduced to the Language, Mathematics and Cultural areas of the classroom. Grace and Courtesy form a part of their everyday interactions in and outside of the classroom, thereby creating a holistic learning approach for each individual child.
Due to the high demand for Primary schooling in this area, we decided to expand into Montessori Primary education in January 2013. We run pure Montessori education through the Primary school via the areas of learning in the environment, carried through from Pre-school, with the complexity of Primary education continuing. Learning transpires with the use of the Montessori materials and the children are able to move into abstracting as and when they are ready to do so. The introduction of Cosmic Education is also a vital part of the Primary school curriculum. This is done through the Great Lessons, which provide an all-encompassing, holistic vision of various disciplines combined.
We are extremely proud of our school.
We welcome you to arrange a meeting and tour of the school to see Montessori education and philosophy in action at Modderfontein Montessori.
